TUPELO – To help kids who would go without during summer break, the Tupelo/Lee Hunger Coalition aims to raise $20,000 by May 28.
The funding drive will help the coalition’s BreakBox program reach 800 children and their families from June to August. The supplemental food program will serve students in Pre-K through 12th grade in the Baldwyn, Lee County, Tupelo and Nettleton school districts from June until August. The program, which is in its second year, is focused on students who receive free and reduced price meals during the school year but experience a gap during the summer months.
The boxes will be distributed in Baldwyn, Saltillo, Mooreville, Tupelo, Verona, Shannon and Nettleton.
To donate to BreakBox, supporters can text BreakBox to 40403 or they can donate through tupeloleehungercoalition.org. Checks should be made out to CREATE Foundation and earmarked for BreakBox and mailed to Tupelo/Lee Hunger Coalition, P.O. Box 334, Tupelo, MS 38802.
